It might shock you to know that compared to other brew methods, capsuled cups are actually a more sustainable coffee option. According to a report by Wired, the precise measurements of water and energy used to produce a single cup of coffee with a Nespresso or Keurig machine is vastly less than what one might use for multiple cups of drip coffee in larger devices (think about how much coffee you've wasted making big batches and dumping out the rest once it gets cold).

However, there are still improvements needed for relying on single-serve coffee makers. Among the easiest is replacing the pods with a reusable option, where users add their own grounds, seal the top, and place in the machine like a traditional pod. Reusable Keurig alternatives have become relatively popular over the years, but it's taken a little longer for Nespresso options to gain traction. The reason? The device requires an aluminum lid to function properly. To accommodate this design constraint, brands have adapted their own recyclable toppers which when combined with the reusable capsules, allow compatibility with the machine's specifications.

The environmentally friendly aspect of these accessories isn't the only appeal. Users say implementing reusable pods into their routines saves a good chunk of money compared to buying the name brand pod packages. Amazon has several top-rated reusable pods that shoppers repeatedly use. These options range in price from $13 to $35, and function with the vast Nespresso lineage that's out there today. Check them out below.
