Sometimes Mother's Day sneaks up on you. Sometimes you forget to drop that card in the mail until the day before. Sometimes you forget to book that brunch reservation at the place with the Bloody Marys she likes. And sometimes you're just strapped for cash and don't know what kind of treat you'll be able to afford (once you're past macaroni art age, that is). Here are some restaurants and other spots offering free food, discounts, or other special deals for mom on and around Sunday, May 13.

5 Napkin Burger

Head into locations in New York City or Boston where mom will be entitled to a free dessert on May 13.

Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse

If mom's a fan of feasting on grilled meats (go mom!) treat her to Fogo de Chão for dinner and she'll get a gift card for a free meal good on her next visit (go mom, again!) between May 14 and June 12.

Medieval Times

If meat on swords isn't medieval enough for mom, she can eat for free at the dinner-and-a-jousting-show chain from May 1 through May 13 with the purchase of another adult-price ticket.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse

Whether dining with you or while spending some quality "me time" with herself over a steak on May 12 or 13 at Ruth's Chris locations in Clevland and Florida, mom will be treated with a $25 voucher good from May 14 through July 1.

If mom, like so many other folks, has a soft spot in her heart for Shoney's, she'll be glad to know the chain will give her a free slice of pie on Mother's Day when she purchases any entrée. (Okay, you should be doing the purchasing.)

Treat mom to some froyo at TCBY, where they'll treat her to the first six ounces of her order for free. That includes limited-edition flavors like Hot Honey Pecan and Pink Lemonade sorbet.

The hot dog chain is giving a free Chili Dog Meal—Chili Dog, small fries, and a small soda—to anyone with proper “Mom-bership” identification. That can include bringing their kids into the restaurant, showing a family photo, or telling a favorite family story to a Wienerschnitzel employee. Hey, it's her day. She can share as many embarrassing moments from your life as she likes!
