This playful turkey melt's abundant crisp crevices and gooey interior will have the whole family wondering, "What can we waffle next?"


How to Make It

Step 1

Preheat a waffle iron with 4 compartments to HIGH.

Step 2

Place a paper towel on a microwave-safe plate. Arrange bacon on paper towel; cover with an additional paper towel. Microwave bacon at HIGH for 4 minutes or until done.

Step 3

Combine mayonnaise and mustard in a small bowl. Spread about 1 1/4 teaspoons mayonnaise mixture over each bread slice. Divide bacon, turkey, apple slices, and cheese evenly among 4 bread slices; top with remaining bread slices, spread side down. Lightly coat both sides of sandwiches with cooking spray. Place 1 sandwich in each compartment of waffle iron; close waffle iron firmly on sandwiches. Place a heavy skillet on top of waffle iron to help flatten sandwiches evenly. Cook 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown and cheese melts.

This was a great sandwich.  It appeared on my menu for the Cooking Light Diet and I thought it would be a great way to try out our new panini press.  Very good and liked by the whole family!

I used the waffle iron. You need smaller sandwich bread to fit four sandwiches in the waffle iron.  I made two with larger bread, cutting each in half.  Very easy and my husband wants me to make it again.

Fantastic!  I just used our panini press and not our waffle iron...but still.  Great flavors!! And so easy.
