This easy pasta sauce is so tasty and versatile. You can substitute crushed or whole tomatoes for the diced. Crushed will give you a smooth, thick sauce; whole adds a nice chunkiness. Serve this sauce with your favorite pasta.

How to Make It

Heat oil in a saucepan or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté 5 minutes. Stir in wine and next 6 ingredients (wine through tomatoes), and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium, and cook, uncovered, about 15 minutes. Stir in parsley.

Great spaghetti sauce! Instead of two cans of diced tomatoes, we use one can diced tomatos and one can of tomato puree as it makes for a thicker sauce. We also add a pound of browned ground beef and serve over pasta. It's so easy that my husband no longer buys canned sauce at the store.

Very nice sauce and a great alternative to canned. Doubled the basil and black pepper, added 1/2 tsp dried thyme and 2 beef bouillon cubes (crumbled). Before that it was too tomato-y. I also pureed the tomatoes and one can was fire roasted tomatoes.

We have used this recepe as well as the Puttansca Sauce version which accompanies it for years since we first read the 1998 article. Both are great depending on what your personal tastes are. For our kids, we use this recipe and puree everything so it is a smooth consistenicy. This is great to use with your August and September garden tomatoes, basil, and parlsey!

This was awesome! I added about a 1/3 cup of sliced black olives and mixed it with a box of cooked Pene pasta just before serving. The boys want me to make it again soon. It is light and fresh but it has a very full flavor.

I have been using this sauce since 1999 and it has never disappointed me. I think by far it is cooking light's best pasta sauce. I have normally added a variety of ingredients to this sauce and it always comes out great.
