this cobbler was disappointing. It made a nice crisp crust but had no taste. i even added extra berries and a little vanilla to the berries. I won’t make this one again.
I used fresh blackberries and added 1/2 tsp almond extract.
My only issue is the dish size. The quantities called for allow for a single layer of berries and a thin layer of batter. I would consider using a smaller dish next time. Because it is so thin, the portions, for 6, are very scant.
We love this recipe, simple and delicious! I usually use fresh blackberries. I've also used a pound of frozen peaches, defrosted in the refrigerator. Both are wonderful. I found a substitute for self-rising flour on the internet: combine one cup flour with one and one-half teaspoons baking powder and one-fourth teaspoon salt. You get the same results, and you don't have to buy special flour.
Best cobbler recipe! I sprinkled the top with cinnamon like others recommended. I used fresh blackberries. I've tried other cobbler recipes & they don't even come close to this! My husband loves this cobbler!!!! :)

This recipe is so simple, and so delicious. We will definitely do this again, and I can't wait to try it with other fruits. For this first attempt, I went with 2 cups fresh blackberries, and did as others had recommended with adding some cinnamon and fresh ground nutmeg to the 1/4 reserved sugar before sprinkling it on the top. I did not have self rising flour on hand, so used all purpose and it worked beautifully. I'm guessing it made it a bit more dense than it would be with self rising flour, so I may try it with the self rising next time and see which way we like it best.
This was wonderful!!!! I have never made cobler before because I don't like it because its gummy and doughy. This was not that way at all. I like the chewy sides and my husband liked the softer center. I made it for him and it was so easy and the fresh fruit was the way to go. I will make this again and again. BTW I eat cobler now. Lol.
I know what you're thinking: something this simple and easy can't be all that good. You'd be wrong, though. I thought the same thing until I made it for dessert last night. OMG! Used fresh blackberries from Trader Joe's and Splenda instead of sugar. This is so good you won't believe it!! Husband and dinner guest agreed it was outstanding. So easy that I won't be able to keep myself from making this again!
Some recipes need more than 5 stars. Like other reviewers, I was hesitant to try this one. How good could something so easy really be? Well, it is THAT good. Trust the recipe and make it as directed and it will turn out perfect and delicious. Perfect balance of tart berries and sweetness. Yum.
Soooo delicious. I used fresh blackberries instead of frozen, and I used all-purpose flour. It looked a little different than the picture (maybe because of the flour?) but tasted perfect. This might be a new go-to dessert. Another version of this recipe that I had recommended sprinkling 1 tsp of cinnamon with the final 1/4 cup of sugar, and that made it even better!
I've made this so many times now I can do it in my sleep. It is fantastic and appeals to everyone I know. I always add more berries, sometimes a mixture of berries, sometimes berries and stone fruits....you can't make this taste bad! Easy, economical, delicious, FAST. What more could you want? It's perfection after a vegetable plate dinner. Ice cream is a welcome addition.
The batter seems a little thin, but turns out great. Do not use more than 2 cups of berries or it will get mushy from the water the berries give off.
My only hesitation in reviewing this recipe is I don't want anyone else to know how to make this fantastic cobbler. I want it to by my secret! My boyfriend likes blackberry desserts and I had never made any (I'm an apple pie maker from way back) This is the first recipe I found and it is phenomenal AND easy. I throw in blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, whatever I have. It is so delicious it lasts less than 24 hours every time I make it. I never even saw it was supposed to take Self Rising flour, I have used All Purpose without issue. Seriously, the worst thing I can say is you won't be able to stop eating it!! Perfect combination of fruit and carbohydrate, not too sweet, not too heavy, Yum.

I didn't have self rising flour, so I made my own using 1/2 cup whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup all purpose flour, 1/2 tsp salt and 1-1/2 tsp baking powder. I also used 1 cup blackberries and 1-1/2 cups blueberries. It was wonderful!
This recipe was so quick and easy! I used a whole bag of frozen mixed berries and it turned out delicious. Incredibly easy and very tasty. I tried using more fuit than was called for (closer to 3 cups than 2) but next time I think I would only use just a bit more than 2 cups. I used frozen mixed fruit (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries). Next time I will think I will also add the nutmeg and cinnamon. I plan to make this often.
Absolutely the best. When my grown kids come for dinner, this is their number one dessert request. Sometimes I bribe them with it! I think the recipe just as it is - simple, sweet, and easy to mix up ahead of time - is perfect. My preference is frozen blackberries since I always have a bag or two on hand. Haven't tried any other fruit with this recipe. But the cooking time allows us time to eat, relax, and then enjoy a sweet treat for dessert! Viola! I'm a dessert genie!
This is my extremely fussy son's favourite pudding in the world. He would have it every day if he could. Like others have said, how can anything this easy taste so good? I'm British so we have it with custard and it tastes amazing! Thanks for this keeper!

I have made this recipe with blueberries and drained canned peaches....what a treat! I keep the recipe taped on the inside door of my kitchen cabinet for ready access. My family can't get enough!
How can anything this easy be so good? I made the cobbler last night using blackberries I had frozen earlier in the summer. I pretty much stuck to the recipe, except to use soy margarine and milk-- worked perfectly. What I really like is the fact that, as long as you've got some fruit in the freezer, you can throw together a really great last-minute dessert.
Absolutely yummo. In fact, my old recipe for blackberry cobbler is going in the trash, lol. This one is perfect. I used 4 cups of frozen blackberries and did add the 1 tsp of almond extract to the batter. Also took the suggestion of adding a small amount of nutmeg and cinnamon to the 1/4 reserved sugar for the topping. It got rave reviews. My husband is the biggest critic and he loved it.. Served it with a scoop of Blue Bell no sugar added ice cream. PERFECTION!!!!
We used frozen blackberries and frozen raspberries, and served with vanilla ice cream. We thought it tasted good, but it just did not have great flavor. Maybe try blueberries next time.
I made this for my mom's birthday (she's a connoisseur of blackberry cobbler) and she absolutely adored it. I used all fresh fruit - not frozen, with an extra cup of blackberries and added two whole white nectarines (diced) to the fruit layer. I also combined some of the other reviewer's contributions (adding a dash of nutmeg, 1 tsp of cinnamon, and 1 tsp of almond extract to the batter). I reserved about 1/4 cup of the batter to drizzle over the top of the berries. The result was astounding. This will be made in my family for years to come!
delicious....but I agree, use more fruit and you will have a 5 star dessert. This is the good, old-fashion cobbler where the ingredients rises through the fruit and juices to creat a delicious, sweet, slightly chewy crust. Goes well with vanilla ice cream too!
