Balsamic glaze is a syrup of concentrated, cooked-down, sweetened balsamic vinegar; it adds a sweet and tangy element to this refreshing salad. Look for it near the vinegar.

How to Make It

Step 1

Arrange watermelon on a serving platter; top evenly with onion.

Step 2

Halve figs lengthwise; arrange figs on platter; sprinkle with cheese.

Step 3

Combine oil, juice, and honey, stirring with a whisk. Drizzle over salad; sprinkle with mint and basil. Drizzle balsamic glaze over salad; sprinkle evenly with salt and black pepper.

Wow. What an interesting and tasty salad. I prepared as directed and it was received with rave reviews. I think the onion is a must. It adds a new level of flavor. I will lightly broil the figs next time for a little crispy change. Such a nice addition on a hot summer day. And figs come and go, so make it soon! Cooking light does it again. 5 stars!Jan

This salad was quite easy to make and was yummy.  I forgot the purple onion and I think that is why I could say it was refreshing.  I don't have hate for the onion...I bet it would be just as delicious with the onion...just not refreshing...
