Made this yesterday. Cooked it for 7 hours and then got to hungry to wait. It was outstanding. I would rename it pot roast soup since the meat tasted more like pot roast than steak but since we love pot roast it made it even better.
This is a good recipe for the crock pot. I expected something more though. I thought the higher quality meat would make it more special. It didn't. It was a good beef stew recipe but I have a better one. I doubt I'll make this again.
Prepped everything the night before so it was super easy to get started prior to heading out to work (cut and put the potatoes in water and just drained in the am). I also used fingerling, red, and purple potatoes; worked perfectly. I also cooked for 10 hours on low and everything was tender and delicious. I didn't have frozen peas so I added canned about 10 minutes before we ate. The leftovers were even better as lunch the next day!
Made this recipe with bison round steak. My husband is on a low salt diet so made with no salt tomato paste, left out the salt and added Mrs. Dash garlic and herb in its place. Turned out great - and he asked for seconds!
Excellent soup! I do think the cooking time listed though is incorrect. I set it on low and it cooked all day. This recipe is hubby approved!
