Reviews for Spicy Honey-Brushed Chicken Thighs
Easy and very flavorful. I'll make it again, but next time we'll sear it on the barbeque.
Made these a few times during the winter and broiled them. The spice and honey made them tasty. Just did them on the grill and they were awesome. Chicken thighs are just better on the grill. Used same cook time.
This recipe was good. I will make it again, but it was not one of our favorites. I made it according to the recipe and did not change anything. This recipe is a make once every two months or so kind of recipe. Not a once a weeker that everyone wants over and over again.
Fast and easy and soooooooo good!
AMAZING! I could eat this EVERY night! I cut the thighs up in small pieces though .. Instead of basting I poured 1/2 the honey sauce in with the chicken and spices first .. Broied and then added the rest of the honey sauce and broiled til brown. AWESOME! Thanks for the recipe, definately going to share!
This recipe was FANTASTIC. It was fast, scrumptious and virtually no mess. Definitely something to write home about.
Omgoodness, this was so easy, fast and sooo good! Made this tonight for some friends; I have to give them the recipe now. :) A unanimous YUM from all! Served with steamed rice and CL's Sesame-Soy Green Beans, subbing broccoli for the green beans. I used two breast fillets and deboned two thighs at full spice recipe, smoked paprika, 1 1/4 tsp of cayenne (just the right amount of heat!) instead of chili powder. Let chicken mix with spices for about three hours in the fridge. Used half of honey mixture. I love the combination of the spices and a touch of sweetness from the honey. Cook time was spot on, and the chicken was very juicy and flavorful. Just right for a dinner for four. I would gladly make again (probably many times!) and be proud to serve to company. Excellent chicken recipe! Thank you, David Bonom and CL!!!
SO YUMMY! First off, I hate chicken thighs and talk about unhealthy. Instead I divided up a chicken breast into equal portions of a thigh (so you don't have to change cooking time and heat) and followed the recipe exactly. Amazing! My best friend made them with the thighs after eating mine and said the breasts were just better overall. Whatever your choice, its wonderful tasting.
Delicious! Quick, simple, great weekday meal. Honey mixture gets rather sticky, so definitely use foil if you want easy clean-up.
Very tasty chicken. I cut the pepper in half and it was still plenty spicy.
These were really good. The whole family loved them! I did not use the cayenne pepper or paprika though.
Made this for the second time last night, and it did not disappoint. It's easy, if a little messy, and a crowd-pleaser. The mixture of flavors is fabulous, and the dark meat of the chicken thighs ensures a juicy piece of meat. I served it with homemade mac-n-cheese and sauteed green beans and shallots for a nice, comforting meal on a December night.
Deelish & easy! We make this one all the time. It is a bit spicy but we love spicy dishes so it is perfect.
This recipe was a big disappointment. I have made many Cooking Light recipes over the years. I always look for the recipes with the 4 & 5 star ratings and have had great experiences with all but just a few and this is one of them. I made this recipe as indicated but used half of the cayenne since I was serving it to my kids. I cooked it for the specified amount of time but I would say the chicken end up a little overcooked. After just a couple of bites, I couldn't eat any more. My husband and boys ate theirs but agreed that it wasn't very good. We did not like the flavors of the spice mix and the honey really didn't do anything to help the taste.
Easy to make and very flavorful! It was a great balance of sweet and a tiny bit spicy. I accidentally bought bone in skinless thighs but I just let them cook a few extra minutes and otherwise followed the recipe exactly. I made with some roasted fingerling potatoes and a spinach side from cooking light (spinach with a white wine vinaigrette). I'd recommend!
Really good - cooked on gas grill rather than broiled. Bold flavors.
I really really wanted to like this recipe, but somehow it just fell flat. I would try this one again with chicken breast or pork - something a little leaner than dark meat chicken. Thighs are juicy as they are, and don't need a whole of of pizzazz in my opinion, so perhaps the meat is just paired wrong for my tastes with the honey. The spice rub ended up coating 1/2 the thighs with the whole of the rub, leaving the rest of the thighs to have less flavor and taste more sweet from the honey rub. IF if make again (and it's a big if as of right now), I would not pair with chicken thighs and would double the rub / spices to coat all of the meat evenly
I made the recipe with breasts and baked them at high heat (~450 deg F), because I didn't have a broiling pan and the instructions on my oven said that without a proper boiling pan, the drippings could ignite. I liked them. My dinner companion loved them - and had seconds. I will make this again, but will probably use a bit less chili powder. I thought the flavor was a bit overwhelming. The rub followed by the sauce worked out really well. The chicken was really pretty! After making a second time (this time broiling), I stand by my original review. I'd advise lining your pan with foil - it gets pretty mess. And really stick to the cooking times, or your chicken will end up a bit dry. Its not the absolute best chicken, but its pretty good - especially for something that can be thrown together in 20 minutes.
This one lived up to its billing. Very easy to put together and delicious!
My family enjoyed this dish. I may go lighter on the cumin next time. But other than that I really like this recipe and will use it again.
This was absolutely delicious. My husband loved the chicken, and he is not a chicken lover. I am usually not a fan of spicy food, but this was superb. I served with broccoli and couscous.
Delicious! Perfect blend of spices. I typically ONLY eat chicken breasts but went out on a limb and was pleasantly surprised! The boneless, skinless chicken thighs were so moist and the rub created a little crispiness. It was so easy and so quick. Great for midweek meal. Served with brown rice and sugar snap peas
I have made this at least once a week since getting the recipe a month ago, have emailed it to all my friends, and stand around the kitchen patting myself on the back. It's the ideal- something delicious but sinfully easy to make. I wanted something healthy but delicious, and easy to stock up on. It doesn't require any odd ingredients, the recipe is perfectly timed, and it works well with chicken breasts (which I usually cut in half, just to be sure they get coated in spice). This spice mix is a winner!!!
have made this many times. Its a real crowd pleasure!
This was delicious. I didn't change a thing and this is definitely a keeper which I plan on cooking again. So tasty.
Outstanding! Very easy and quick! Have made this many many times both grilled and broiled. For me the broiled turned out better. You can adjust the ground red pepper if you don't like a lot of heat. I throw my seasonings in a Gallon baggie and toss in the chicken. Turns out great every time!
KEEPER! Hubby loved this one. Easy, breezy!
Really enjoyed this recipe. So easy to prepare and had a great flavor. It is spicy so you may want to adjust to your taste. I prepared exactly as the recipe suggested..even the cooking time and it was perfect. Because I had the chicken ready about 30 min early for dinner I put in my crockpot and kept on low and it worked great.
I made this last night for dinner. It was FANTASTIC - the flavor was terrific (not too sweet despite the honey) and it was VERY quick to make - faster than the salad we made to go with it. My 3 year-old and my husband both gobbled it right down. I could do this on a weeknight no problem. Didn't find it too spicy at all, but my chile powder may have been "old", and I subbed regular ground pepper for the ground red (wasn't going to the grocery store for 1 item). Will absolutely make this again. (Thanks to darmonty for the timing tip for grilling.)
I didn't care for the cumin but otherwise it was tasty. Not worthy of a special occasion. Don't think I'll make it again.
The combination of spices on this recipe is SO yummy. I really had to hover over the oven so they didn't burn while they broiled, but the results were delicious.
So good. Very deserving of 5 stars. A nice mix of sweet and spicy. I cooked them on an outdoor grill, first directly over the grates. Before adding and brushing with honey i moved the thighs to an aluminum pan and finished cooking over a lower heat. We could not stop eating them
My family loves this. Great recipe.
LOVE this! I found it in a CL magazine and have used it many times. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because it's a bit messy.
I used chicken breast instead of the thighs and grilled instead of broiled. Will make it again. It was excellent.
This was so yummy!!!! Grilled instead of broiled. Very easy also. Put the rub a couple hours before grilling. It is a little spicy for those of you who don't like a little heat. Will try on breast next since it's sometimes hard to find boneless, skinless thighs - which I refuse to eat.
Boyfriend was surprised how much he liked it. We generally don't like sweet meats...no teriyaki glaze on our teriyaki kind of people. I halved the recipe and added a tablespoon of soysauce to my honey vinegar mixture, as well as a touch more vinegar than proportioned. Result was a slightly sweet but complementary flavor with the subtle spices in the dish. We didn't find it too spicy, and perfectly easy recipe. I used foil on top of cast iron pan for easy clean up while broiling.
This was really liked by my husband who loves spicy food, I didn't even add as much as it says though because I can't handle that much. It was very flavorful and the chicken was moist, my Dad liked it a lot, he was impressed! I actually ended up chopping up the chicken instead and letting it simmer longer in the sauce instead of broiling, which I think really helped.
This recipe was just alright. I will not make it again because I have other recipes that are better. I think what makes this taste a little off is the cumin, but that is just my opinion.
Outstanding! My family loved these thighs. They had just the right amount of spice. We prepared them on the grill instead of the oven. I would serve this to company.
This is so delicious and easy and all I need to have is chicken as everything else is a pantry staple. I love this dish as is!
This chicken recipe is amazing! The spice rub gives it a nice kick, and the sweetness of the honey compliments it so well. I served this with a side of sauteed summer squash and zucchini. I will definitely be making this one again!
This is a personal favorite. The thighs stay moist, and are spicy but sweet. So delicious! Check out my review at http://alittlenosh.blogspot.com/2010/07/spicy-honey-brushed-chicken-thighs.html
Solid, weeknight recipe that comes together in a jiffy. There were no exotic ingredients, so I had all I needed at home. The glaze and spices made the outside of the chicken very flavorful, but the inside of the chicken was pretty bland. I had no ground red pepper, so I used twice the amount of red pepper flakes. It gave it a nice kick. Next time, I'll let the chicken sit with the spice rub 1/2 hour, before grilling it. I will also grill it in a bake pan, rather than a grill pan, so the glaze does not drain away from the chicken while it cooks. We enjoyed this recipe, and I will definitely make again-- but not for a special occasion.
Wonderful, family loved it. I served it with CL's Broccoli w/ Red Pepper Flakes & Toasted Garlic and mashed potatoes.
I hate to start off with a negative review, but I signed on to myrecipes.com specifically to give feedback on this recipe. It sounded good, and with so many 5-star recipes, I was sure I was making a winner. There are very few foods that I dislike, and I usually enjoy most recipes, but my husband and I really didn't like this chicken recipe. We eat a lot of chicken but we're not used to having chicken thighs, so perhaps that was the issue. We didn't like the texture or the taste. We won't make this recipe again, or even play around with adaptations.
WOW, these were fabulous and SUPER easy and quick for a great weekday meal that is good enough to make for company!! LOVED using the boneless thighs and the spicy glaze was WONDERFUL!!
We all loved this. Used bone-in thighs and baked rather than broiled. Also didn't have enough honey, but this was still a wonderful dish. Will definitely make again.
Made this on a whim when I realized I didn't have the ingredients for the planned dinner. Super fast and easy and yummy, too. I used regular paprika this time, but next time I'll use smoked paprika for extra flavor. Served it with whole wheat couscous and broccoli. I thought it would be a bit spicy for our preschoolers, so I made one thigh with no rub and only the honey-vinegar mixture.
I used breasts & cut them each into 4 tenders. After broiling as directed, I covered them with foil and baked them an additional 25 minutes at 425. I srved with Alexia frozen parm. olive oil & garlic red potato wedges and steamed green beans with a sprinkle of olive oil and toasted pecans. Delicious and easy! This will be a weeknight regular and possibly a go-to for company!
This is really, really good. I'd have rated it 3 stars (good solid recipe) but I didn't want to degrade its rating. However, it IS a good solid go-to recipe; great for a weeknight but good enough for company. I started on the grill, but ran out of gas so I finished them under the broiler. Turned out fine. Served it with boxed noodles (lazy) and a vinaigrette slaw. Yum. If I made any changes (probably won't), I might add just a touch more vinegar to give the glaze a bit more punch. We had glaze left so I brought it to the table - really tasty drizzled on the cooked chicken. Will definitely make this again.
I used three large chicken breasts and chopped them into pieces, then cooked in the skillet with a little olive oil and a bit of chicken broth when that was soaked up. This was a fantastic recipe! Just enough spice for me, and putting it over rice with the leftover pan juice and a bit of the sweet and sour made it perfect. I used this for just the two of us, but it would work great for a larger group as well.
Tried this recipe as my menu planning seemed to be a bit dull. This was delicious, healthy and super easy to prepare. I used bone-in thighs and baked them at 425 for a bit longer than recipe suggested. I'll make this again and next time we'll use the grill. Delish!
We love trying new recipes and this is definitely a keeper â and our new favorite! My husband was concerned that the honey would make it too sweet; but, offset by the vinegar, it was a nice foil for the spices (which form a lovely crust)! We also like to vary the spices sometimes. I generally cook a dozen thighs at a time, so we have plenty for quick meals during the week. Serve with fresh green beans and a garden salad. Yum!
It impressed my mother-in-law and, let me tell you, she is one hard nut to crack. It was a little spicy for my young kids, but they ate it and liked it. I made it with wild rice, a side of green beans and a spinach salad.
Very good!! My husband loved it so much he ate everything left over that night!! We like things spicy, so I added about a 1/4t of red pepper to the recipe based on some other reviews. We also used chicken breasts and cooked it on the grill. Since it was a little more spicy, we added a thin slice of Gruyere cheese on top. Very good, will be making this again since my husband inhaled it!
this recipe is amazing. so easy & fast. we grilled instead of broiling it. had about 10 neighbors over for dinner & everyone loved it. it wasn't spicy at all, just delicious. will be making this again. might add more red pepper flake next time.
I brined boneless chicken breasts instead of using thighs and got rave reviews on this dish. Will definitely be added to our dinner rotation! Perfect amount of heat!
I LOVED this dish - it's the perfect mixture of sweet and tangy - used a little extra red pepper flake, but I like my chicken with a "kick". Also, didn't have the apple vinegar so I used champagne vinegar and it was still amazing. Shared with all my friends this morning.
This was a easy to make recipe, I followed the recipe pretty much as far as the spices go, I used what I had on hand. I let the chicken sit in the spices for a lot longer because we weren't ready to cook yet, we also barbecued the chicken so it took a bit longer, but it was delicious!
This was delicious! We cooked the chicken on the grill with some hickory chips and it was so good! Outstanding and so easy!
This was quite tasty. I thought it might be over-spiced but that was nicely balanced by the honey mixture. Instead of broiling this I sautéed it in a cast iron skillet with non-stick spray, which worked just fine. My boyfriend really liked this and it will become a usual. I would suggest serving this with a side salad and perhaps some corn on the cob. If you are feeling especially fancy than toss on some orzo with salt and butter or olive oil.
Delicious and easy! I made this recipe as directed except I grilled the chicken. I also used 4 drumsticks, 2 thighs, and 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I probably could have had 1 1/2 times the seasonings though. The honey and vinegar mixture was more than enough.
I make this weekly entirely on the grill. Its always a hit and for anyone I share the recipe with. Excellent!
I have made this twice and both times it was very good. Everyone in my family loved it. I didn't change a thing. I served it with rice and a veggie. I will be making it again soon.
This was incredibly delicious! My piece was a bit spicy so next time I would tame the heat a little so that way my toddler could try it. I couldn't believe how quick and easy this was to prepare and clean up. I would serve this to guests or just for a weeknight dinner. I made mashed potatoes to go with it. Yummy!
I have made this for numerous parties - it's so easy and stays juicy. Chicken thighs are just great and this is a nice combo of spicy & sweet!
Too easy to be this good. The first time I made it, I followed it exactly how the recipe read. I felt it was not spicy enought for me...so second time I made it, I added an extra tblspoon of the ground chili pepper & chili pepper. It came out so good. Not only good but juicy.
This recipe tastes great and is very easy. Great to have in the rotation. Both my husband and I enjoy it. I made it with the Summer Black Bean and Pasta Salad on this site, which complimented it very well.
Put it on the grill instead of in the oven and it turned out great! will definetly make again and again. served it with a corn and tomato salad making it a great summer dish.
I should have known that I would agree with the few that rated this recipe poorly. Bad over-spiced flavor... and the honey doesn't help at all.
Yum!!! This chicken has so much flavor! This is something quick and easy that I could have on the table in 30 minutes on a weeknight. I am also proud to serve this to guests. I get compliments every time. The seasoning is a little strong, so the second time I made it I only put seasoning on one side of the meat. I served it with a green salad and quinoa pilaf.
This was super easy. I used drumsticks and thighs bone in and subed smoked Paprika and me and the hubby loved it. It has a spicy (not too hot), interesting flavor and I will make this again.
This recipe was fantastic. I made it as suggested, although I was a bit casual on the measurements for the spice rub and used breasts instead of thighs. It was juicy, spicy, sweet and above all, delicious. We served it with regular boiled red potatoes and a fruit salad, and it was great! This would be perfect for a quick meal for company.
My family loves this chicken, it's probably the best barbecued chicken I've had. No alterations.
AWESOME recipe!!! I've had it twice in the last two weeks and my husband is obsessed! I'm going to also make this for a healthy cooking demonstration at work. I'm also going to try this with ribs.
Very tasty and super easy!! Loved it!!
Easy, tasty chicken dish. I suggest lining the baking dish with aluminum foil so cleanup is easy, the sauce is very sticky -- but good! I'd also double the sauce next time.
Whew, Mama, these are fabulous. I mistakenly increased the cayenne from 1/2 tsp. to 1 1/2 tsp. They were still to die for. I will definitely be doing these again and again and again. You can't miss with this one. Thanks for the great dinner. Don't fix this for wimps and small children, it's for the big kids! I definitely increased the time under the broiler because in my oven I have to drop the shelf down to keep from burning them.
Hubby and I thought this was fantastic! Perfect blend of sweet and spicy. Definitely going into the dinner rotation. I made it exactly as instructed. It was very easy and I wouldn't change a thing. It's nice that I already had everything needed in the pantry. Served with roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli.
This is a good and handy recipe, esp. as if you keep chix thighs in the freezer, you can make this with all pantry ingredients when there's "nothing" in your fridge. Didn't wow me, but I'd definitely make it again for a quick and easy weeknight supper.
I have just one word for this recipe....YUM!
I don't often rate a recipe with 5 stars, but this was really good. Quick and easy too. Taste was very similar to "hot wings", but without all of the fat. Will definitely repeat this one.
This one's a no-brainer. I prefer chicken thighs anyhow -- they've got a lot more flavor, even if you serve them plain. But this glaze comes together in a minute and it really pumps up the volume, so why should you ever serve your family plain chicken thighs?
