Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; stir well. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead 10 to 12 times.
Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness; cut into four 4 1/2-inch circles. Place on a hot greased griddle or skillet; cook over medium heat 2 minutes on each side or until lightly browned. Serve warm with strawberries and whipped cream, if desired.
