How to Make It

Step 1

Beat 1/2 cup butter and shortening at medium speed with an electric mixer until fluffy; gradually add sugar, beating well until blended. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time, beating just until blended after each addition. Stir in vanilla.

Step 2

Combine flour and baking soda; add to butter mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat at low speed until blended after each addition. Stir in pecans.

Step 3

Beat egg whites at medium speed until stiff peaks form; fold one-third of egg whites into batter. Gently fold in remaining beaten egg whites just until blended. Use immediately.

Ok time and temp not included also pans should be lined with wax paper and greased and floured but I've baked a lot and pretty much had that figured out. Every time I have made it and taken it to a party, there is not a crumb left and someone always asks for the recipe. Certainly one of my favorites. Right up there with best ever Carrot Cake

I had to use part of another "Genoise" cake recipe because the author did not include the temp or bake time in the instructions. 350 for 20 to 25 min.
