  • Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg and vanilla; beat well.

  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture, mixing well. Stir in pecans.

  • Spread batter in a greased and waxed paper-lined 8-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Cool and cut into 2 1/2- x 1-inch bars.

  • Note: Recipe may easily be doubled and baked in two 8- inch pans.
