How to Make It

Step 1

In a large skillet, warm oil over medium-high heat. Add onion and chili powder. Cook, stirring often, until softened, 3 to 5 minutes. Add beef, salt and pepper and cook, stirring, until crumbly and no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer contents of skillet to a slow cooker.

Step 2

Add tomatoes and beans. Stir well, cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Top chili with condiments such as shredded cheese, sliced jalapeños, diced onions and sour cream.

I found this delicious. I used ground sausage though and 40oz can of kidney beans. I thought it was fabulous.

I add: 1 can black beans, 1 can pinto beans, 1 can tomato sauce, 1 small can tomato paste, 1 small can green chilies, 1 tbsp cumin, and to taste cayenne pepper

Very basic chili recipe. I followed the recipe but the chili was pretty bland. This would be a great chili to serve to picky eaters or kids. I prefer mine with a little more zip, so I'll be adding more to it the next time I make it. This is a great starting place if you haven't made much chili before!
