Sweet, tangy, and absolutely thirst-quenching, this beverage is one the whole family can enjoy.

How to Make It

Step 1

Combine 1 1/4 cups water and sugar in a small saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook for 30 seconds or until sugar dissolves, stirring frequently.

Step 2

Remove from heat; stir in mint, lime rind, and lemon rind. Let stand 20 minutes. Strain mixture through a fine mesh sieve over a bowl; discard solids.

Step 3

Place one-third each of sugar syrup and watermelon in blender; process until smooth. Pour puree into a large pitcher. Repeat the procedure twice with remaining sugar syrup and watermelon. Stir in lime and lemon juice. Serve over ice, or refrigerate until ready to serve. Stir before serving.

Me and my daughter loved this. Not sure why all the bad reviews. We substituted local honey for sugar and cooked the mint and rind down just a bit longer. I added more lime/lemon juice to taste. I recommend serving really cold. When I made it an adult beverage I added tequila and grand marnier.

I thought this was really good. I added more lime/lemon juice and omitted the mint. Blogged about it here: p.s. I used seedless watermelon - can't imagine getting the black seeds out. I left the random white seeds in and they blended up fine.

Very good! A lot of work, but will be fun for special occasions. Kind of hard to get all of the watermelon seeds out. The kids really enjoyed it!
