Scared to try a veggie burger? This one will make you a believer. Packed with lentils and healthy veggies, we promise you will never even miss the meat.

How to Make It

Step 1

Mix all ingredients except the oil and fixings together in a medium bowl. Form into 4 patties. Chill at least 20 minutes and up to 1 day, covered.

Step 2

Heat oil in a large nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Cook burgers, turning only once, until browned and hot inside, about 5 minutes total.

Step 3

Serve each patty with fixings.

Step 4

*Find cooked lentils in vacuum packs at Trader Joe's or other well-stocked grocery stores.

These were pretty good as veggie burgers go, but nothing spectacular. I used cooked brown rice instead of bread crumbs and pulsed the mixture in a food processor, and the patties held together reasonably well. But I was scratching my head at the serving size - this is supposed to make 4 patties?? A burger that enormous would not have fit on a standard-sized bun. I ended up with 8 or 9 "normal" sized burgers and served 1 or 2 at a time over several meals. My husband was nonplussed but I thought the mix of ingredients was interesting, so I might make these again.

These were absolutely delicious but did not form solid patties - would have been impossible to eat on a bun, but were good with a fork and grilled onions on top. The only change I made to the recipe was using panko instead of bread crumbs - maybe that made a difference?
