I thought these tacos were just okay. They were pretty one note and unfortunately, that note was VERY acidic. I will say that the steak/marinade were great, but altogether with the vinegary slaw, I wasn't all that impressed. I probably wouldn't make these again.
Really easy and VERY flavorful. I marinaded the flank steak for 3 hours, grilled it whole, then sliced it up. DH really liked the pickled cabbage. I would serve this marinated steak with other meals - rice would be yummy, like Chinese take-out. Definitely making this one again. Super quick and easy too.
We loved this recipe! It wasn't exactly grilling weather, so i put it on a cookie rack, on a jelly roll ran and popped it under the broiler for 6 minutes on the first side, 2-4 on the second side. The char is fabulous and the flavor amazing!! I upped the sambal oelek to 2 tbl, and liked the kick. I skipped the pickled items since hubby isn't a fan. I added it to a steak salad, hubby made tacos with cheese, salsa and some cous cous. All in all a fun multi cultural meal!
100% delicious! I add a teaspoon or two of fresh grated ginger, it gives it an additional fresh zing! I could never find anything like the pickled cabbage so we tried this and we think its amazing...we take store bought coleslaw mix which is unseasoned and dry. Then add Ken's sweet onion salad dressing just to coat the slaw. Its a perfect combination of sweet, salty, crunchy, soft...do yourself a favor and make it asap!
Fantastic. I made the recipe exactly as written and we devoured the tacos!!! Highly recommended.
Cooked steak on a grill pan on stove. They were freakin' awesome;-). Don't forget the green onions sprinkled on top; they give them that extra flavor boost!
Whoa, it's hard to believe that so few ingredients make such for such a stunningly delicious final product! As someone else mentioned, this marinade makes the steak taste amazing and is really the only thing keeping this from being plain, though the grilled corn tortillas and slaw help, too! Speaking of the slaw, for those who weren't fans, might I suggest trying it with broccoli slaw next time? It's the only kind of slaw I like, and it was incredible with these. Unlike other tacos (and Asian dishes) I didn't feel the need to add any condiments on top, and for me that's really saying something! This recipe is so perfect it would be hard to improve.
This recipe really was fall-down-dead delicious!! Fast and easy. Made it as written, but added shreded carrots and slivered peppers to the quick pickled cabbage. Served on flour tortillas. Was sooooooooooooo good! Make the cabbage--it definitely adds to the dish. Husband ate three helpings. DEFINITELY will make again! YUMMMMMMM!
The marinade in this recipe is amazing! I tasted it (before adding the meat obviously) and I knew that this was going to be a winner. I used pork instead of beef and used a chili sauce I had instead of the paste, but other than that stuck to the recipe. I enjoyed the cabbage, but agree with another reviewer that adding some more veggies, carrots, cucumbers would liven it up.
This was a great recipe. It really like Korean BBQ so to bring those flavors into a taco that was so easy to prepare was a definite winner. Make sure that you time to make the pickled cabbage, it really brings the full flavor forward.
Love this recipe. I used venison and marinated overnight--it was very tender and SO flavorful. I also made the cabbage a few hours ahead of time. Wonderful.
DELICIOUS. I used moose steak instead of beef, and it was fantastic. The marinade is amazing. Like some of the other reviewers, I wasn't quite as wowed by the pickled cabbage, so in the future I might just use plain shredded cabbage and add some cilantro and radishes to the top along with the scallions.
I LOVED THESE. One of my top 2 recipes for that issue, and I made 15+ items (yeah, summer break boredom...) They are super sweet, and that's just perfect. I used Sriracha sauce for the 'chili paste'. I don't like super spicy, but there was no need to reduce the amount of spice in the marinade. I LOVED the pickled cabbage and will use that as a base recipe to toss in whatever else I have on hand --- bean sprouts, shredded carrot, diced radish. Used a hot stovetop grill pan to cook it, which worked fine. Served with cilantro sprigs and crumbled queso fresco. Ate leftovers at 10am!!! then made it again!
Fabulous flavor. The sauce is outstanding. The tacos were a big hit with the family and everyone said they look forward to having this on a regular basis. I whole-heartedly agree! Only thing that just missed the mark was the cabbage...
tacos were delicious, I didn't find the cabbage to be very appetizing, other than that, definitely going into the regular line up
AMAZING!! I made this for dinner 2 days ago and I'm making it again tonight with enough to leftovers for lunch this week, I can't get enough! It's super simple to make and quick (minus the marinating time). I let my meat and cabbage marinate for 2 hours and it tasted delicious. The cabbage gets a bit strong after a day though. I couldn't find nappa cabbage at my grocery store but I just bought a bag of dry coleslaw by the bagged salads and it works perfectly. Another quick tip - if you have an international food store near home check the meat section for pre-sliced meat for korean bbq, I went to a place called Global Food. These store's prices are usually much lower than mainstream grocery stores but the meat is just as good. I bought a pound of pre-sliced rib-eye intended for korean bbq for $4. It's delicious and I got perfect, thin slices without any work! This will definitely turn into a staple in my home
Very good, all my men said that it is a keeper. I think that next time I will marinate the meat all day and the pickled cabbage as well.
