I have been making this for years - and I keep making it with ham leftover from a baked ham. I use cream of mushroom soup as my sauce maker, green chilies, frozen green beans, minced garlic, and parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. It is delicious and my family loves it. It is a complete meal in one dish so we usually have it with rolls. I love it so much that I haven't tried any of the other variations! What a flexible and easy recipe - and the taste is outstanding.
This is a neat recipe. It's hard to rate b/c of all the different options. I chose ham, rice, cream of mushroom, mushrooms, mixed veggies and topped with colby jack and Parmesan. I was worried when I took the foil off because it was still super soupy. I left it in for 15 min and it thickened up. I left out the salt. I love pepper but 1 teaspoon is WAY to much. The combo was really good. I look forward to trying other versions.
