This. Was. DELICIOUS! I don't like traditional gyros so I was cautiously hopeful about the recipe but I was pleasantly surprised! It really is just a twist on a burger so don't expect a traditional gyro, but for what it was, it was great. We did the ground beef with a little extra of the seasoning (which I found pretty easily at my local chain grocery store), then served on pita bread with lettuce, thinly sliced red onion, cucumber, tomato, tahini salad dressing (from the grocery store as well), black olives, and crumbled feta cheese. Like I said, amazing!!
Read MoreI doctored the original recipe a bit and the result was wonderful. Even my 2 teen daughters who will not eat anything "new" finished their meal tonight! I added a wash of mustard and egg before putting a coating of ritz/parmesan/breading mix to the burgers. I didn't have Greek seasoning, so I used Greek dressing. Left out tomato and used cucumber thinly sliced along with the red onion, lettuce and feta cheese. The tahini sauce was simple to make. Definitely adding this to our regular rotation.
Read MoreMy family liked these. To make them more like traditional gyros, I served them with a cucumber dill sauce: sour cream, cucumber (grated in a food processor, then drained of excess liquid), salt, pepper, garlic, dill, and a little prepared mustard. We'll make this again. It was a nice change from regular burgers.
Read MoreMy boyfriend & I really enjoyed the gyro burgers. We used ground turkey (with garlic & onion mixed in) in place of beef. We used really thick tomato slices and crisp lettuce too. The tahini and feta were a nice touch. It was a quick & easy mid-week dinner.
Read MoreI thought the ground beef might be too overpowering (since lamb is the tradional meat), so I used ground turkey plus an egg in place of the beef. Also, since tzatziki sauce is the traditional gyro accompaniment, I used it instead of tahini sauce (I bought prepared tzatziki from the store, but you can find recipes for it from this site). The results were delicious!
