A creamy cocoa frosting tops this rich and decadent sheet cake...the ultimate chocolate indulgence!
This is the best chocolate cake I ever made. I have been baking about five different recipes but none of them came out as great as this one. The kids in my family are very picky when coming to cakes, this one captured their sweet tooth. I definitely recommend this cake to any one who wants their chocolate cake to be finished right away
After making the correction with the baking soda correction. This recipe was very moist, rich and tasty. My family loved it. Is there a low fat version of this recipe.
Wow, you guys are tough. I just made the cake, and it's been a very long time since I made a scratch cake. The batter tasted great and I'm hoping the finished product does. I needed to add milk to the frosting recipe, maybe as much as 2-3 tablespoons to get the right consistency.
This is tasty (provided that cocoa powder is used instead of baking soda...)!
Thank you for correcting this recipe..slip ups happen....this is a staple..old timey recipe.kind of nice to see..will be keeping it as a regular...
My grandma made cake just like this, down to the frosting! In fact, this is basically her recipe. No wonder it's so popular with my family. :)
??
I will go out on a limb and say the 1/3 cup baking soda should be 1/3 cup baking cocoa.... why would no one else think this as well?? I've baked enough cakes/brownies in my day to have figured this one out. Will probably use 3 cups self rising flour or basic all purpose and adjust baking soda/salt accordingly. Sounds wonderful though, may have to test run this one tonight! =)
Think there is something terribly wrong with this recipe. 1/3 cup baking soda???? I think that should be cocoa....
Ditto with everyone else. Would no stars mean "Would not make in the first place?" That's all of us so far.
What they said!!
Where is the chocolate in this chocolate cake? Are we just supposed to guess what it is ? And don't you have a proof reader? You misspelled "separate? 1/3 cup of baking soda? You want it to come out looking like a balloon? I suggest you have an intelligent proof reader to check out your recipes before you sne them out to us readers.
Maybe it is me but shouldn't there be a measure for the cocoa powder that should go into the cake or is this "Grandma's Magic Cake" that you must think it tastes like chocolate?
1/3 c. baking soda????? No way! A chocolate cake without any chocolate in the batter????? No way! Someone needs to revise this recipe before I would even consider making it!
Please check the recipe... 1/3 cup baking soda?
There is a mistake in this recipe.
I bet that the 1/3 cup baking soda is supposed to be cocoa. Where is the chocolate in this chocolate cake?
I haven't made this...but I am almost positive the 1/3 cup baking soda is an error. The posters of this recipe needs to go back and review it and re post it.
