If you think cut-out cookies are just for the holidays, think again! The flavor of these cookies is hauntingly good.

How to Make It

In a large bowl, blend together shortening and sugar. Add remaining ingredients; beat until dough is sticky. Spoon onto wax paper; wrap and refrigerate for several hours to overnight. Roll out dough 1/2-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with floured cookie cutters; transfer to greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool before frosting. Frost with Powdered Sugar Frosting. Sprinkle with sugar. Add jellybeans for eyes and mouth.

Great taste, but don't hold their shape!

I wish I had read SharonBunny's Review BEFORE I made these. I used 3 sizes of leaf cookie cutters & they all came out as blobs, rather than in any form or shape. They are delicious though, even without the icing they call for. I tried rolling them thinner with very little improvement in shape. I finsihed up the rest in circle shapes. They taste great; so I will keep the recipe.

These are the worst sugar cookies for cutting out and rolling any shape. They spread like crazy on the cookie sheets and do NOT hold a shape at all. I gave them one star only because they taste good. If you do make them, make sure you only put 4-6 cookies on a sheet because they spread out very large.
