A classic birthday cake, with a soft, tender yellow crumb and a luscious chocolaty frosting comes together in about 30 minutes after you've baked the layers and prepared the frosting. All you need are the candles.

How to Make It

Step 1

Dollop about 1 tbsp. frosting onto the center of a cake stand (to hold cake in place). Place one cake layer on stand. Spread with about 3/4 cup frosting. Top with second layer. Starting with the top, then working down the sides, frost cake with remaining frosting.

Very delicious. I agree, the cake itself was a little dry, but otherwise tasty. The frosting was, however, out of this world! It was more like fudge than frosting, and simply divine. I will definitely make this again.

I found this cake to be very dry. Had to add more milk because batter was too thick to spread in pan. Also the favor was a little off. For an yellow cake it should have been more moist and sweeter tasting.

I love love love this fudge frosting recipe! With the butter cake, it has turned out to be so tasty! I'll definitely make this again!

Great cake and great frosting. My mom suggested it to me and I made cupcakes with it by cutting the bake time. Nice color inside and very delicious! Serve it with strawberries and ice cream and it turns into a fabulous, special shortcake. Try it for your next friend's birthday!
