After a visit to Italy, home gardener Reed Davis had an intense craving for simple, fresh pizza. He also had a lot of homegrown tomatoes. This easy recipe took care of both. He makes his own crust--feel free to use your favorite recipe or store-bought pizza dough, as we have here.

  • Preheat oven to 500° with a pizza stone on the bottom rack.

  • Roll out pizza dough on a floured pizza peel or upside-down large baking sheet. Press garlic slices into surface of dough and season with salt. Slide pizza from peel onto hot pizza stone in oven.

  • Bake pizza until puffed, blistered, and browned, 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven, drizzle liberally with oil, and top with tomatoes and basil. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt.
