For family taco night, set out the filling, taco shells, and toppings, and let everyone craft their own unique creations. Rather than a store bought taco mix pack, we created a simple homemade blend of basic pantry spices. It takes no more than five minutes to measure it all out and blend it up, and provides excellent flavor to a comforting, uncomplicated meal.

How to Make It

Step 1

Combine first 9 ingredients in a small bowl; add red pepper, if desired.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add turkey; cook 5 minutes or until browned, stirring to crumble. Sprinkle with spice mixture; cook 1 minute or until fragrant, stirring constantly. Add 3/4 cup water; cook 4 minutes or until thickened and meat is done.

Step 3

Heat taco shells according to package directions.

Step 4

Fill shells evenly with turkey filling, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cheese.

These were so good! Exactly what I want tacos to taste like. Very simple prep -- and I was so happy to avoid the scary chemicals in the little plastic pouch. Thank you!

Who doesn't love taco night?!

This recipe is a household standard for us but I want to give big thumbs up for the turkey preparation here.  When I asked my husband what he thought of the turkey he said, "That was turkey!?"  He couldn't believe it.
