Yield
Makes 1 (8-ounce) julep

Mint juleps are the quintessential Southern cocktail.  All you need for this classic version is fresh mint, mint simple syrup, and bourbon. Leftover simple syrup keeps refrigerated about one week and perfectly sweetens iced tea.

How to Make It

Step 1

Place mint leaves and Mint Simple Syrup in a chilled julep cup. Gently press leaves against cup with back of spoon to release flavors. Pack cup tightly with crushed ice; pour bourbon over ice. Insert straw, place mint sprig directly next to straw, and serve immediately. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired.

Step 2

Note: For testing purposes only, we used Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select Bourbon.

These Mint Juleps are fantastic!  We have these at our Derby Party, and then we use the Derby Party App for iPad/iPhone App for the party bet pool.  After the Juleps, you don't have to do any of the math calculations for the bets!

A well made mint julep is a taste that you remember! Only use the very best Bourbon as the drink deserves it.
