Loved this recipe and the chicken apple sausage makes it and gives it so much flavor! Combination of all the flavors makes this a real keeper! Will make again!
Not good. I love all of the ingredients separately, but this just didn't stand out.
Great idea for pizza. Husband and friends LOVED this recipe. Didn't have gouda but substituted asiago and greyere. Definitely a keeper for this family.
I've made this twice before and both my husband and I loved it both times. I'm not much of a fennel lover - don't really like fennel seeds in sausage - but the way they are cooked and combined with the onions is really nice! This time I was worried I didn't have enough gouda so I added a little mozzarella and it was just as good as the first time. I haven't added the chives but based on a previous review, I definitely will next time.
GREAT pizza!! I was leary of the fennel but it was not strong at all. I used Pillsbury refrigerated thin pizza crust and Apple & Gouda Cheese Chicken Sausage that I had in the freezer. So easy, so good.
Made this tonight and absolutely loved it! Followed the recipe exactly except used Boboli prebaked pizza crust and Aidells chicken apple sausage because this is what we have in CA. It looked beautiful and the only problem was that my husband could not stop at 2 slices! I will definitely make it again!
Such great flavors that you don't even notice that there is no 'real' sauce on the pizza. I had never sautéed fennel before, but both the fennel and the onions came out perfectly sweet and tender. The sausage I used had fennel seeds inside, and it only added to the yumminess. The chives on top really add to the pizza, so don't forget them!
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. I didn't change a thing -- the flavors were subtle but tasty. That it was so quick an easy to put together is a big plus!
I couldn't believe when I made this how easy it was after all the prep. This came together quickly and within 20 minutes after all the prep it was ready to serve. My son loved it and went back for seconds.
I did use a sauce on the pizza and a whole wheat crust but this was so yummy! The chicken sausage and fennel mmm. I also added some grilled chicken breat for even more protein.
This pizza was tasty and easy. I used a combination of chicken apple sausage and mango-jalapeno chicken sausage. I also elected to add garlic and use a combination of smoked gouda with the mild gouda. When cooking the onion mixture, I left the pan uncovered, as the onions were beginning to get too watery for my liking. The fennel gives the pizza an added depth which is nice. I doubled all ingredients, made 2 pizzas, freezing one for a later use. This pizza was quick, easy and flavorful!
I made this pizza last night and my husband, daughter and I really enjoyed it. I had chicken sausage with garlic and red peppers in the freezer so I used that and rather than chives I sprinkled parsley on top. The Gouda cheese was a nice compliment to the onions and fennel. It did take me 20 minutes to get the onion/fennel mixture soft and lightly browned. After having read the other reviews, I was afraid that the pizza would not be spicy enough for us. I did put red pepper flakes on the table but no one used them! I rated this pizza 5 stars as it is an outstanding pizza and I would have no problem serving it to guests as part of a pizza bar. I served the pizza with a simple tossed salad.
We really liked this recipe. I used a sweet red onion and fennel seed instead, added mushrooms and used my pecorino Romano cheese I had on hand. YUM! Great for a quick Sunday after church lunch! We liked the Mama Mary's crust.
Didn't alter anything. The flavor was just too mild for my taste.
