Give your favorite ice cream treat a serious upgrade by caramelizing the bananas before building your sundae. Broiling the banana with brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon intensifies the fruit’s sweetness and adds a layer of rich depth to your dessert. This recipe is for a single split, but is easily multiplied to serve more. 

How to Make It

Step 1

Preheat oven to broil with oven rack in upper third of oven. Place banana, cut side up, on a small rimmed baking sheet covered with aluminum foil. Sprinkle banana evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon. Broil until sugar mixture is melted and bubbly, 2 to 3 minutes.

Step 2

Place caramelized banana in a serving dish. Top with ice cream, and drizzle with hot fudge and caramel. Top with whipped cream, and sprinkle with walnuts.
