Buttermilk frosting is a quick and easy frosting to whip up. Spread it over your favorite cookie, and decorate as desired with candies and sugar crystals.

Buttermilk frosting has a natural tang from the buttermilk that contrasts nicely with sweet cookies or cake layers.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 (16-oz.) pkg. powdered sugar

  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  • 4 to 5 Tbsp. buttermilk

Directions

  1. Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating at low speed until blended. Slowly beat in vanilla and 4 Tbsp. buttermilk. Increase speed to medium, and beat until smooth. If desired, beat in remaining 1 Tbsp. buttermilk, 1 tsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
