This homestyle meatloaf recipe features both ground beef and ground pork sausage, green bell pepper and onion, and a sweet tomato topping.  Serve with mashed potatoes and green peas to round out the meal.

How to Make It

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350°. Combine first 8 ingredients and 1/4 cup brown sugar in a medium bowl just until blended. Place mixture in a lightly greased 11- x 7-inch baking dish, and shape mixture into a 10- x 5-inch loaf.

Step 2

Bake at 350° for 1 hour. Remove from oven, and drain. Stir together ketchup and remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar; pour over meatloaf. Bake 15 more minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted into thickest portion registers 160°. Remove from oven; let stand 20 minutes. Remove from baking dish before slicing.

Just made this for the first time tonight! The meatloaf was great, but I will definitely cut the brown sugar in half next time - definitely on the sweeter side.

Excellent

I made it with Jimmy Deans spicy sausage and it was delicious. I made sure not to over mix it which makes it  tough. I combined all the ingredients, except the meat, first to make sure everything got incorporated before it was mixed into the meat. For the two of us, the recipe made enough Meat Loaf for 4 meals which I divided up and vacuum packed for future use. We served it with baked sweet potatoes and canned cream corn that we added more whole corn  too. Very satisfying dinner.

I made this recipe as directed only substituting about 3/4 cup of bread crumbs for the saltines. I also formed it into balls and placed them in a muffin pan to make large meatballs or mini meatloaves. It made serving easy and neat.
