"This barbecue chicken recipe is actually my dad's creation. Every time I go home for a visit, he makes it for dinner. It doesn't call for many ingredients, and takes no time at all to make." CL Reader

How to Make It

Step 1

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Add ketchup and next 4 ingredients (ketchup through hot sauce); bring to a boil. Partially cover, and cook until reduced to 2/3 cup (about 15 minutes), stirring often.

Step 2

Prepare grill.

Step 3

Place chicken on grill rack coated with cooking spray. Grill 12 minutes or until done, turning and basting with 1/3 cup sauce after 8 minutes; serve with remaining 1/3 cup sauce.

This BBQ Sauce was just ok. I made the sauce recipe as described, I used sriracha for the hot sauce and added slightly more than the recipe called for since we like spicy food. We only made 2 chicken breasts so had plenty of sauce. I will not make this again, I'd rather use the bbq sauce i get from our local grocery store.

Perhaps not the "best" barbecue recipe ever, but easy and all-purpose for sure, with an unexpected and nice bright note from the lemon juice.

This is an outstanding recipe. The sauce is full of flavor and pairs perfectly with chicken. It is simple and quick to make with readily available ingredients. I have made this years and for many occasions; my nephew always begs for it!

The BBQ sauce was not good at all. I double-checked the recipe to be sure I had not gotten it wrong but no, it was not tasty at all.

My husband and I made this main course for dinner tonight and we thought it was delicious! The chicken was moist and full of flavor. We salted and peppered the chicken before grilling to help bring out the natural flavor of chicken. We served this dish with olive oil and balsamic vinegar grilled asparagus and baked beans. This is a great spring/summer meal. We will definitely be making this dish again...now that the weather is nice. I would say this meal is more for "every day" not for a special occasion, unless you were having a bbq. I would recommend this meal if you are looking for something easy, for a meal that you already have most of the ingredients for around your house, and if you enjoy grilling.
