I made one large loaf and omitted the chestnuts, otherwise made as written.
The meatloaf had bitter flavors in spots. I think this was due to the garlic being overcooked in the meatloaf, I since read that it is best to remove the germ or just use powdered garlic since this can happen with garlic.
I had no problems with the meatloaf holding together, it was firm. I think this is a good recipe and will try it again with garlic powder,
I love this recipe! Made exactly as written!
I make this at least once a month and individually wrap leftovers for freezer. I don't use a full teaspoon of hoisin on top as I found it too salty. Other than that, I follow the recipe as written and love it! 6 WW points. With brown or white rice and some stir fried veggies...my favorite meal ever!
It tastes like the inside of a dumpling. A great and delicious dinner!
I love this recipe. I added 1/2 cup shredded carrot. Also in place of crackers I used panko bread crumbs.
I often make up this and the Santa Fe Meatloaf, then freeze individual servings. Pop them in the microwave for a quick main dish.
I thought the flavors in this were way too strong, and the meat fell apart and was very liquidy. We ended up throwing most of it away. I would not make this again.
I make this all the time, got it out of a 2006 Chicken for Dinner Cooking Light magazine. The original recipe calls for ground chicken, not turkey. Just saying'.
Very tasty! The flavors were great and the mini-meatloaves were very moist and tender. I made the recipe exactly as written and it turned out great. Will definitely make again!
This was a delicious change from plain old meatloaf. I didn't have rice crackers, so I used crushed Rice Krispies. Used 1 1/2 lbs of turkey and no ground pork. Topped with a little sweet chili sauce. Came out moist and very flavorful. Husband started saying YUM with his first bite. Served with rice and stir fried broccoli and carrots in peanut sauce. DEFINITELY will make again!
My husband and I love this variation on meat loaf - and I love the individual servings, great for freezing a few for a quick meal. I've made it several times, pretty much as is - although I've made all turkey at times, and with pork/turkey combo. I can't really tell a difference, but I think the pork makes it more moist. I usually serve with some stir-fried veggies tossed with a little Trader Joe's Soyaki sauce and CL's Island Rice - yum!
Excellent. I double the recipe and freeze half for a quick weeknight meal. I pack mine with whatever veggies I have on hand. Great, versatile recipe.
From someone who doesn't really like meatloaf, this was delicious. I used all turkey instead of pork and it was not dry at all. I only used 1 tsp of hoisin topping per loaf; any more and it would have been too sweet like the other reviewers said. Other than that, made recipe as listed and cooking times were spot on. Can't wait to make this again.
The texture and the flavorings were fine but we did not like the addition of hoisin sauce spread over the top. Perhaps it was the brand of hoisin sauce that I used.
This recipe is fabulous! The meatloaves stayed so moist despite the fact that I used all ground turkey breast. This recipe is a keeper.
This recipe is fabulous! I have never changed anything about it and I won't! =) I've made this multiple times and mostly for big family dinners and everyone loves it. Perfect recipe!
Scaled back the recipe to serve two. Both the turkey and pork I used were lean, resulting in a less than moist dish. May add more hoisin, soy. Could make a nice appetizer with a suitable sauce.
Everythings already been said - this is a fantastic recipe. I used all ground turkey but that was the only change I made. Not only great flavor but healty too.
This is wonderful - it's hard for me to find something both my kids enjoy this is one of their favorites :)
Excellent recipe! Everyone in the family enjoyed it so much I made it again the following week. The 2nd time i made it, I put the red bell and green onion in the food processor too, since we all found my hand chopping a bit too chunky the first time around. Definitely like it better with these processed to a finer consistency. Will surely be making this on a regular basis, I serve it with Jasmine rice and a medley of stir fried fresh veggies, summer squash, thin carrots and snow peas was a hit =)
What a fantastic recipe. Moist and tasty. The Asian influenced flavors give the meatloaf a fun update.
These meat loaves are so YUMMY! This has become my husband's favorite meal, and he asks for it almost weekly. I agree that the hoisin sauce is a little too sweet alone, so I mix it with tomato paste and a touch of Sriracha sauce for some heat. I also didn't have any water chesnuts last time, so I chopped up a jalapeno instead--great flavor! It also works great with ground sirloin + ground turkey breast.
Very good. We'll use a little less hosin sauce next time because we found the sweetness a little off putting, but otherwise a very easy and tasty dish.
