World Cup: What to Eat for the Semi-Finals
Here we are in the Semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2014 and if you lost all interest after the upset last week, hang in there and cook up a feast to cheer you up. Yucca Fries with Cilantro Mayonnaise
Commonly served as a snack at the bar or on a street vendor, you will often find the crispy bites of potato that we love so much in the United States served with a twist. In the Netherlands, they serve their fries with a dollop of creamy mayonnaise, sometimes plain and sometimes with herbs and spices. Our version features Yucca Fries served with Cilantro Mayonnaise. If you don’t have yucca, make a batch of these five-star rated Garlic Fries instead, and to complete your snack you must sip on a refreshing Heineken of course.
Beef Empanadas with Chimichurri
If fries and mayo aren’t sounding like your cup of tea this afternoon, whip up an empanada instead. Frequently served throughout Argentina, empanadas are small pastries most commonly filled with meat and cheese. The rest of the ingredients vary depending on location and vendor preference. Here we have Beef Empanadas packed with sweet raisins, briny olives, cumin, and chile. Drizzled on top is a generous serving of Chimichurri, a flavorful sauce packed with parsley, garlic, olive oil, and oregano. To finish your meal, serve with a glass of Malbec.
