Any recipe with "triple-decker" in the title sounds like a winner to me, and this strawberry cake recipe is no exception. This is a popular recipe on our site, perhaps because it starts with a packaged cake mix and a package of strawberry gelatin. The frosting, however, is a homemade buttercream frosting and is divine with its three simple ingredients: butter, powdered sugar, and chopped fresh strawberries.

Another plus for this recipe is that it can be a make-ahead. You can put the finished cake (frosting and all) in the refrigerator, uncovered, and chill for 20 minutes or until the frosting sets. Then cover the cake with wax paper, and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. To freeze the cake, wrap the chilled cake with aluminum foil, and freeze up to 6 months. Before you serve it, you'll need to thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.
