Their dairy-free ice cream is rolling out in major markets soon.

Oat Milk feels like it came out of nowhere and took the world by storm. The unconventional dairy alternative was ubiquitous in 2018, simultaneously everywhere yet also difficult to acquire. Well, if you thought that oat milk was over, Oatly is back with what promises to be one of the sweetest food trends of the summer.

That’s because Oatly is launching its own 100% vegan oat milk ice cream in the U.S. It’s made from the same stuff you might know and love, soon to be available in seven flavors ranging from strawberry to mint chip. It’s made with North American oats, as well as a variety of both natural and artificial flavors.

So how does Oatly have enough of an oat milk supply that they’re able to not only meet demand, but also make ice cream? It turns out their recently opened Millville, New Jersey, plant probably has something to do with it. According to Bloomberg, it has the ability to increase the Swedish-based company’s productive capacity by as much as 1000% from what it was at this at the beginning of 2019.

For now, it sounds like Oatly is rolling its ice cream out slowly in select markets. Sometime before the end of this June, it’ll be in the freezer section at various New York City locations, and Los Angeles can actually get oat milk ice cream from an Oatly ice cream truck engaged in a “pre-release tour.” But given how much people seem to love oat milk and ice cream, you can probably expect Oatly to crank out as much of this stuff as they can soon enough.
