Ranch Heads, this one’s for you.
A world without ranch dressing is almost unimaginable. However, that was the sad reality before the beloved dressing took over the world in the ‘90s.
Sure, the buttermilk/mayonnaise concoction was developed in the 1950s, but ranch didn’t truly hit its heyday until the era of Full House and Nirvana.

That’s the vibe Abby Reisner hopes to capture in her new cookbook, Ranch: An Ode to America’s Beloved Sauce in 60 Mouth-Watering Recipes.
“The design team had an awesome vision for it—sort of Ren & Stimpy meets Saved By the Bell—and they really led the way on creating the glorious 90s explosion that it is,” explained Reisner, content director at Tasting Table.
Ranch will teach you how to make 60 ranch-centric recipes, including Ranch Battered Onion Rings and Ranch-Marinated Lamb Skewers.
Reisner says she knows the sauce can be a divisive topic—but that just made writing the book more fun.
“Ranch is not a neutral topic in the way that lampshades and nail files are neutral topics,” Reisner says. “So it was fun working on something that was guaranteed to elicit some kind of reaction, whether it's one of visceral hate or true love.”
Ranch is available now for $16.50.
