'Tis the season for festive cocktails, and I love the idea of serving a "signature cocktail" instead of just the usual drinks. Last week I had the opportunity to speak with Brent Lamberti, a mixologist at the RdV lounge in New York's Meatpacking District. He was telling me that one of the trends in cocktails this season is creating sophisticated cocktails from traditional non-alcholic beverages like eggnog and hot chocolate.

Lamberti has created several festive recipes such as the Mistletoe Makeout, Coco Loco ( a rum-infused hot chocolate), the Gingerbread Man, and the Sapphire Stocking stuffer, which is a Bombay Sapphire gin spin on egg nog. I was thinking about serving a tray of Mistletoe Makeouts as guests arrive. Nothing like a little kissing to get a party started, right? The color of this drink is perfect for the holidays, is kind of healthy because of the berries, and it seems easy enough to make. You need to use VeeV Acai Spirit, which is a distilled version of the much-heralded acai juice. Here's the recipe:

Muddle a handful of cranberries, blueberries and blackberries in a mixing glass and add a dash of allspice. Pour the berry mixture into a cocktail shaker and add the VeeV and 1/2 ounce of Grand Marnier. Shake well and pourt into a Champagne flute. Top with 1 ounce of Cremant d'Alsace (a sparkling white French wine) and garnish the stem of the glass with a spring of mistletoe.

If you happen to be out for drinks in the Meatpacking District, stop by RdV and ask Brent to mix you up one of his specialties. Or, check out our collection of 20 Terrific Holiday Cocktails for your next holiday party.
