You Can Make Disney's Fried Pickles At Home—Here's the Recipe
Though it’s been open since earlier this month, I cannot stress enough that you should probably hold off on visiting a Disney theme park in California or Florida right now. The latter state is still seeing nearly 10,000 new Covid-19 cases a day, leading Disney World to tighten its mask rules and ban eating or drinking while walking.
The good news is that Disney has shared so many recipes at this point that you could really enjoy a week’s “staycation” full of almost nothing but Disney-sanctioned snacks and meals—all without ever having to put on one of those horribly oppressive masks that impinge on your freedoms.
The latest such recipe is sure to be a hit among those who miss bar snacks, featuring a satisfyingly briny crunch. I’m talking, of course, about the fried pickles you’d find at the Carnation Café, located on Disneyland’s Main Street U.S.A. Not only that, but the full recipe also includes everything you need to know about making “Zesty House Sauce,” the perfect accompaniment to any crispy fried pickle spear.

For the pickles themselves, you’ll need canola oil, flour, eggs, panko breadcrumbs, the whammy ingredient of grated parmesan cheese, and—shockingly—a bunch of pickle spears. You’re essentially dredging the pickle spears in flour, using an egg wash to make sure the panko and bread crumb mixture adheres before frying in oil heated to 365ºF for four to five minutes.
As great as they are, though, a fried pickle is only as good as the sauce it’s dipped in, and the Zesty Sauce sounds like it’s got a real unique kick to it. Essentially, you’re combining sriracha, (lots of) ranch, lime juice, mayo, salt and black pepper together for what sounds like a tangy dipping sauce possessed with a bit of acid and heat as well.
Look, I get that you want to go to Epcot and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge right now. But unlike far too many small businesses out there, Disney will still be around once this pandemic is truly behind us. For now, content yourself with these fried pickles and Zesty House Sauce, which you can and should enjoy from within the confines of your house. At the very least, your home probably has a much more relaxed alcohol policy than Disney does.
