Cracker Barrel Opens a Tiny Restaurant in New York City
They also have a float with a huge oven in the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Anyone familiar with the real estate market in New York City knows that space is at a premium. Every realtor worth their salt knows how to use a fisheye lens to make a tiny space look massive, and it often feels like a miracle if you have enough space to fit a desk into a bedroom.
In keeping with NYC’s proud tradition of forcing its residents to pay exorbitant sums to live in small spaces, Cracker Barrel is bringing its very own “New York City-sized” Old Country Store for use in the 93rd Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. To celebrate the down-home restaurant/gift shop chain’s 50th anniversary, they’re creating a 269 square foot (how luxurious!) “Tiny Home Away From Home,” which will travel from Cracker Barrel HQ up to NYC in time for the annual parade.
As you’d expect, this little country shack on wheels is meant to mimic the experience of visiting a Cracker Barrel in miniature. According to a press release, those elements include a front porch with rocking chairs to really lock in the down-home mood, a replica fireplace, and a mini little gift shop featuring all of the trinkets and pre-packaged food you’d find you wanted to get in and out of a Cracker Barrel as quickly as possible. Other design flourishes pay homage to the brand’s fifty year history. Specifically, the Tiny Home Away From Home features reclaimed wood taken from the first-ever Cracker Barrel, which opened in September 1969 in Lebanon, Tennessee.

While the tiny home will be accessible to parade attendees, what Crack Barrel has planned for its actual “Home Sweet Home” float for the parade is a bit different. Specifically, the thing features a colossal oven with enough space to hold 150(!) twenty-pound turkeys. That’s a nod to the fact that Cracker Barrel has served a supposed 3.8 million pounds of turkey since 2010. Oh, and some country musician I’ve never heard of named Tenille Townes will be performing on the thing.
So if you’re a massive fan of country roadside food chains or you’re just sick of seeing an endless string of helium balloons when you tune into the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Cracker Barrel has you covered. And no, you cannot move into the Tiny Home Away From Home, no matter how overpriced your rent is.
