Just add eggs and crust!

If you don’t have pumpkin pie at any point in October or November, you might as well have skipped the season of autumn entirely. It’s a classic dessert for Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving, or any Q4 event with a potential baking component. “But,” you may be asking yourself, “how the hell am I supposed to make a pumpkin pie when I don’t have the first clue about how to get started?” 

Luckily for you, a new product spotted on the shelves of Costco should help you go from bumbling amateur to star baker in the amount of time it takes a leaf to fall from a tree: Pumpkin Pie in a Jar. 

 

 

Spotted by Instagram account @CostcoGuy4u, Pumpkin Pie in a Jar distills the process of baking the fall favorite to an incredibly simple process. As the label helpfully suggests, “you bake it” which, duh. In order to turn this jar of goodness into an honest-to-god pumpkin pie, all you have to do is “just add eggs and a crust” and throw it in the oven. You probably already have those eggs at home, and I’d hope that Costco— purveyor of both useful and esoteric goods— would have pie crusts for sale somewhere nearby, so you’ve got no excuses here.

What’s in this thing, you ask? According to the ingredients and a working understanding of what’s in a pumpkin pie, that would be pumpkin puree, brown sugar, cane sugar, heavy cream and pumpkin pie spices. So it’s not like this is some magic formula containing impossible-to-find ingredients, but it does save you the trouble of buying pumpkin pie components separately and then mixing them up yourself. 

So if you’ve always dreamed of baking a pumpkin pie but felt the learning curve was too steep, it’s time to put up or shut up. Because you can get two jars of pumpkin pie for $6.79 and are officially out of excuses.
