There are few summer treasures more satisfying than sweet, juicy watermelon and refreshing frozen cocktails. So, when Chrissy Teigen mashed up the two in her new recipe for a Boozy Watermelon Slushie, we knew we had to whip one up—immediately.

Like the majority of Teigen’s creations, this pretty summer cocktail is a winner. It’s light, refreshing, and just so tasty, you might have trouble tasting the alcohol at all. Watermelon and lime offer a refreshing balance of sweet to sour, while the addition of fresh herbs (mint or basil) dresses up the flavor profile. But unlike some frozen cocktails you’ve probably had, this one leaves out the ice. Instead, you’ll need to freeze your watermelon (and chill the vodka) for 4-24 hours before blending it up for you and your drinking buddies.

There are two perks to using frozen watermelon instead of ice: a) the cocktail still gets a thick, frosty texture without becoming too watery as it melts, and b) natural sweetness from the fruit. Because the flavors of watermelon and lime are so versatile, the alcohol in this recipe can be swapped out for almost any kind of liquor: tequila, rum, white wine, you name it. This 4-ingredient cocktail makes summer entertaining easy, as long as you remember to prep it a few hours in advance!

Here’s how it’s done:

Combine ¼ cup of freshly-squeezed lime or lemon juice with ¼ cup sugar until completely dissolved. Spread 4 cups of seedless watermelon chunks on a 9x13 baking dish or sheet pan, then pour the lime-sugar mixture on top. After making sure the watermelon is fully coated, place the dish in the freezer for 4-24 hours.

After at least 4 hours in the freezer, the lime-coated watermelon will freeze and solidify, making ice cube-like chunks. Throw all the contents of the dish into a blender along with a cup of vodka, then blend until slushy. Don’t forget to use the frozen juice that formed a layer in the bottom of the dish too—that’s allll flavor.

Pour the slushie into 4 cocktail glasses, garnish with lime wheels or mint sprigs, and serve while cold.
