Finally, a bowl of cereal that maybe tastes like chicken.

Chicken and waffles is the kind of classic comfort food combo that justifies the existence of overpriced brunches by itself. There’s something about the mashup of textures and the fusion of salty and sweet tastes that sets it apart from eggs benedict and other thoroughly average dishes.

If you’ve ever wanted to enjoy this life-affirming dish without having to make a reservation or fight off hordes of bottomless mimosa-imbibing millennials, Post has answered your prayers. Some cereal sleuths have revealed that the company plans to introduce a limited-edition chicken and waffles cereal. Billed as a Honey Bunches of Oats spinoff (labelled as “Honey Brunches of Oats”), the plan is to transform the southern-style dish into a shelf-stable breakfast treat.

Based on the findings of Instagram account @canadiancandyhunters, this rare treat aims to celebrate National Cereal Day by expanding our understanding of what exactly a cereal can be. “Honey Brunches of Oats is celebrating cereal day by bringing your favorite brunch into your cereal bowl,” the back of the box reads. “Sweet & savory unite in a flavor intense cereal that combines chicken & waffles flavored goodness for a unique breakfast experience!"

Based on the look of it, this riff on chicken and waffles uses Waffle Crisp as a template, adding in a crunchy-looking drumstick to introduce the savory element that elevates the dish. It’s important to note that the cereal is artificially flavored, with the box carrying extra assurance that no chickens were harmed in the making of this breakfast cereal.

And if the Instagram handle that broke the news gives you pause, fear not because the cereal is indeed headed to the United States on or around March 7th, the date of National Cereal Day. If I had to hazard a guess, I’ll say that a chicken and waffles cereal probably at least tastes better than a bowl full of Peeps.
