Honey was hot this summer at the Fancy Food Show. From honey-flavored cheeses, dips, spreads, sauces, dressings, candy, and ice cream, each aisle housed a new treat.

Savannah Bee Company, one of my favorite honey companies at the show, featured an array of both Artisinal Honeys in flavors such as Tupelo, Orange Blossom, Sourwood, Black Sage, Raspberry, and Georgia Wildflowers as well as a line of Natural Body Care products. However, my two favorite items in their booth were the Honeycomb Box and the Winter White Honey. The Honeycomb Box (pictured) is completely edible and is bursting with honey in each cell. It is the perfect complement to a cheese and fruit plate. The Winter White Honey has a creamy color and smooth texture that literally melted on my tongue when I tasted it.

Another favorite from the show came from a family of fifth generation beekeepers on the west coast at Honey Ridge Farms. Their natural honeys highlight flavors like Wild Blackberry, Orange Blossom, Pumpkin Blossom, and Black Button Sage. In addition to these irresistible flavors, the company also has two unique products that I particularly enjoyed. The first was their smooth and creamy Honey Cremes that blend fruits or spices with honey. Try them as a sweetener for beverages, sauce for meats, or a spread for toast or waffles. The second was their award-winning Balsamic Honey Vinegar that adds a rich flavor to any dish and is made from natural honey. Curiously though, it does not contain any balsamic vinegar. Give it a try and see if you can taste the difference. I think the flavor is exceptional and plan to use it on salads and in marinades.
