Cake of the Week: Spiced Eggnog Pound Cake
Happy Presidents' Day! We're celebrating with eggnog in this week's Cake of the Week post, even though eggnog isn't currently sold in stores. Presidents' Day was originally created to celebrate George Washington's birthday, February 22nd. It was eventually moved to the third Monday in February as part of 1971’s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, and today, we celebrate all of our country's presidents. Washington had a pretty well-known eggnog recipe back in the day (which you can find all over the internet), so why not celebrate Presidents' Day with an eggnog cake?
This Spiced Eggnog Pound Cake is just what you need. It does call for one cup of refrigerated or canned eggnog, so if you can't find either in your grocery store, we have many eggnog recipes you can make yourself. This pound cake is full of spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. There's even some brandy thrown in there. The glaze is a basic powdered sugar and cream glaze, but you could replace the cream with eggnog. That way you'll add even more eggnog flavor to this Presidents' Day treat.
