Cake of the Week: Bourbon-Chocolate Cake with Praline Frosting
When it comes to cakes and cupcakes, there are many popular seasonal flavors. For example, I've seen pumpkin cakes, apple cinnamon cakes, apple pie cupcakes, cakes with cranberries, sweet potato, lots of pecans, streusel, caramel drizzles, and tons of spices. One flavor that also seems to rise in popularity during this time, but also deserves some more time in the spotlight, is praline. So, today I'm sharing this Bourbon-Chocolate Cake with Praline Frosting.
This cake has many wonderful elements to it. First off, there's the fudgy chocolate cake, but that's not where the chocolate ends. Two of the cake layers are frosted with chocolate ganache, as well as the outside of the cake. Then there's the praline frosting. It's a mix of pecans, brown sugar, whipping cream and powdered sugar. Nice and sweet! A layer of the frosting goes on top of the whole cake. And last but not least, there's a bourbon glaze. This cake is not something you should make when you're in a rush, but boy will your family, friends, or guests really be impressed!
If you're looking for something a little different to bring to Thanksgiving this year, this cake is for you. It's got all the best qualities of a chocolate cake, but the praline frosting and bourbon glaze take it up several notches. Or make it and keep it all for yourself. Either way, give it a try!
