The Perfect Fall Pot Roast
Happy first day of fall! The onset of autumn is currently trending on Twitter, and you guys are clearly excited about it, too. I know this because MyRecipes.com is seeing a spike in searches for fall favorites, like pumpkin desserts, roasted vegetables, and our Classic Beef Pot Roast.
Some people can't wait for crisp air and crunchy leaves, but if you're like me you're sad to see summer go, especially when you realize that you have no warm clothing in your closet. Don't get me wrong, I love fall, but I don't know how to dress for cold weather and I presume I never will. As I sit here in a sweater and sandals, I can feel my skin getting paler by the second. Goodbye, summer. I will miss you. In the midst of my mourning, I start to watch the video below and begin to remember all the things that make fall great.
For one thing, comfort food is not hard to find in homes all over the country this time of year. We're trading grill pans for Dutch ovens and slow cookers, filling our kitchens with heavenly aromas and our hearts with the warm fuzzies. Families gather around the table on weeknights and around the television on game days. Loose, comfy sweaters hide the fact that you're eating more potatoes than usual. Hot chocolate is back, let me repeat, hot chocolate is back. On that note, pumpkin spice lattes have returned to café menus everywhere (come back to the blog tomorrow morning for my homemade version). I am starting to realize that food is central to fall, and I think that's why we get so excited about it. Good food and good spirits abound, creating pleasant memories that we associate with the season.
Sorry to get all sappy on you, dear reader, but I honestly hope you make good memories this fall. Take your kids to the pumpkin patch. Buy a hot meal for a stranger. Call your mom and tell her that you love her. Go home for the holidays. Spread the love.
And while you're at it, why not make a pot roast?
