Make Your Own Brown Sugar With This Simple Trick

Everybody has certain flavors that make them absolutely melt. Some people have chocolate, others have cinnamon. For me, it’s brown sugar. I don’t think I’ve ever made it through an entire cookie recipe without sneaking a spoonful (or five) for myself.
Needless to say, I go through a lot of brown sugar. I’m also the world’s most forgetful person and I’m terrible at keeping grocery lists, so I often find myself in extremely stressful, brown sugar-less situations.

That’s right! You can make this baking staple with two items you probably already have in your pantry: granulated sugar and molasses.
The light brown sugar you buy at the grocery store contains about 3.5 percent molasses, according to The Spruce Eats, while dark brown sugar contains about 6.5 percent molasses.
So why not mix it up in your own kitchen?
Of course, ratios are key. For light brown sugar, use one tablespoon molasses for every cup of granulated sugar. If dark brown sugar is what you’re after, just increase the molasses amount a bit—two tablespoons of molasses to one cup of sugar should do the trick.
