I don’t know if you know this, but your kitchen is probably disgusting. Like really, really nasty. In fact (sorry in advance for what I’m about to tell you), your sink is probably dirtier than your toilet bowl. If not cleaned properly and often, it can make you seriously sick.

Here’s everything you need to know about cleaning that revolting cesspool you call a kitchen sink:
First off, you probably need to deep clean it way more often than you already do. Lisa Yakas, microbiologist and Senior Certification Project Manager of Food Equipment at NSF International, told Bon Appetit that kitchen sinks should be deep cleaned at least once a week.
Key phrase: at least.
You need to wash that sucker from top to bottom every single time you work with raw meat or other potentially bacteria-harboring foods.
To clean your sink:
1. Wash with soap and water.
You can’t disinfect a surface unless it's already clean, Yakas told BA, so always start with simple soap and water.

2. Use a disinfectant.
Reach for a Clorox wipe, white vinegar, or diluted bleach. Don’t just stick to the bottom—make you sure you hit the sides of your sink, as well.
3. Don’t forget the drain.
Those germs have to go somewhere. Every few weeks, slowly pour one teaspoon of bleach and one quart of water down the drain.
