If you've been on Pinterest lately, you can see a million cute ideas of what to leave for Santa, but we're here to tell you that we have it on good authority that the big guy in red is still hoping to get a plate of melt-in-your-mouth cookies this year.

When we talked to him last week (and, yes, he got your list), he let us in on a few tips on how to get on his nice list for sure.

1. Santa love chocolate, with a catch.

Santa's too busy flying around all night to worry about smearing chocolate on his gloves or fuzzy trim, so stick to white chocolate when you can. "Keeping my fingers clean means that I can get the gifts out of the sleigh easier," he said. Too much chocolate and he has to keep wiping the gifts down after he puts them under your tree.

"People think I ONLY like cookies," Santa told us over a lunch of ham and cheese sandwiches and grapes. "The truth is, I LOVE carrots, especially when they're something to dip them in." Give Santa (and Rudolph!) what he wants this year. We suggest leaving a cookie alongside this dip, just in case.

Split Pea Hummus3. Think outside the circle.

"Just as little boys and girls come in all shapes and sizes, so do cookies," said Santa. "What I wouldn't give for a brownie around Minneapolis sometimes!" Bar cookies, drop cookies, sandwich cookies--whatever kind of cookie you made with love, Santa is going to cherish. Get creative!
