Coffee and chocolate, what could be better?

With the recent introduction of flavors inspired by Girl Scout cookies and Baskin Robbins ice cream, one could argue that Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee already tasted a bit like candy. Perhaps in an effort to embrace that reputation (or at least to get more people to eat their stuff throughout the course of the day), the Massachusetts-based chain has decided to flip the script and launch a line of chocolates that tastes like their coffee.

First spotted by Instagram account @JunkFoodMom at the Sweets & Snacks Expo, it looks like Dunkin' is set to debut their “Coffee Thins” at some point in the near future. Much like Starbucks’s coffee-inspired ice cream pints a while back, these little chocolate squares take inspiration from Dunkin’s line of offerings in both flavor and function. They’re set to be available in three sweet (and rather seasonal) flavors: peppermint mocha, pumpkin spice, and caramel.

The “coffee” part of these Coffee Thins is more than just a marketing gimmick, however. Each piece of chocolate is infused with real Dunkin Donuts coffee beans to lend them an air of authentic coffee flavor. Of course, there’s only enough room to cram in 7 milligrams of caffeine (compared to the roughly 100 milligrams you’d find in your average cup of coffee), so you’ll still want to opt for a Dunkin’ coffee with an extra turbo shot if you need to recharge.

As it turns out, Dunkin’ Donuts has been attempting to bring chocolate to market for some time now. A statement the company provided to Delish points out that Coffee Thins were first tested at Dunkin' Donuts locations all the way back in 2014, and that they hope to make them available in supermarkets before the end of this year.

While these things surely won’t satisfy the sort of raging DD addiction that’s typically of many New Englanders, think of Coffee Thins as a sort of craving management system that can keep you contented until that next Dunkin’ run.
