America runs with Dunkin?
The sneaker world is awash with unexpected partnerships in recent times. Look no further than the ultra-limited HQ Trivia Air Max 270’s that Nike released this week. But for anyone looking to train for a marathon or just feel appropriately attired for their next coffee run, one particular collaboration looks pretty sweet.
Today, Saucony announced the release of a special edition of its Kinvara 9 shoe adorned with a Dunkin’ Donuts colorway and design elements. Dropping just in time for April’s Boston Marathon, the collaboration between these two beantown brands is an ode to the city’s world-famous race and the regional staples that keep runners and spectators fueled up.
Decked out in the chain’s iconic orange, magenta, and white colorway, the shoe is adorned with Dunkin’-themed visual elements from heel to toe. The heel depicts a strawberry frosted donut, the Saucony logo takes on the look of a coffee bean, and sprinkles are, well, sprinkled throughout. Even the insoles feature cascading cups of iced and hot coffee, meaning that you’re literally running on Dunkin’.
And while one wouldn’t necessarily associate donuts with struggling up Heartbreak Hill, the shoe itself seems marathon-ready. The Kinvara 9 earned an “Editor’s Choice” designation in Runner’s World’s 2018 Spring Shoe Guide, and it’s EVERUN™ topsole construction should provide sufficient cushioning as you pound the pavement for 26.2 miles.
To Saucony, the partnership is the greatest thing to happen to Boston since they decided to make Marathon Monday (well, Patriots’ Day) a state holiday. “We’re proud to honor our hometown marathon and Boston’s rich running heritage in partnership with Dunkin’ Donuts,” said Amanda Reiss, the company’s CMO. “The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 celebrates the joy, determination and delicious obsession of runners everywhere with a sense of playfulness that’s true to the heart and soul of both brands.”
If you want your own pair (and the Dunkin’ Donuts themed shoebox they’re sold in), you better get moving fast. The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 retails for $110 and is available for preorder now. It’ll also be available at Marathon Sports locations starting April 3rd, but total quantities will be limited to fewer than 2,000 pairs.
