Because the kids like tea?

Are you a millennial? Yes? Let me guess, as you read this at your desk right now, you’re sipping a hot mug of tea, right? No? I suppose you spent all of your money on lattes and avocado toast instead. Well, hmm. You may not be interested in this new line of premium teas from Dunkin' Donuts, but they’re here for you anyway. Dunkin’ is re-launching its hot tea offerings with five new premium full-leaf teas and herbal infusions, in part because young people like tea. In a press release, Chris Fuqua, a VP on Dunkin' Donuts' marketing team, said, “As tea continues to increase in popularity, particularly among younger consumers, our expanded breadth of high-quality teas, featuring proprietary blends, reinforces Dunkin’ Donuts as the destination for the best beverage choices to keep people energized any time of day.”

The new line of hot teas includes Bold Breakfast Black™ Tea, Harmony Leaf Green™ Tea, Chamomile Fields™ Herbal Infusion, Hibiscus Kiss™ Herbal Infusion, and Hibiscus Kiss™ Herbal Infusion. The new, premium hot teas, all contained in pyramid-shaped sachets, are replacing the brand’s current tea offerings, which included basic black, green, and decaf varieties. Tea lovers young and old now also have the option of purchasing boxes of 15 individually wrapped tea sachets for $6.99 at participating Dunkin’ Donuts locations.

As with its decision to enter the ready-to-drink coffee market, Dunkin' follows Starbucks into the upscale tea game. Starbucks purchased Teavana four years ago and now carries more than 30 varieties of tea. As a real, tea-drinking millennial, who is in fact clutching a hot mug of tea as I write this in a too-chilly office, I for one am thrilled that tea is finally getting its due as a valid morning beverage option. If there's not a Starbucks on the corner, there's sure to be a Dunkin', and the more to-go tea options the better.
