Bagel aficionados know all about the power of flavored cream cheese. It can spruce up boring bagels while treating your taste buds to an extra burst of flavor. It’s the perfect wake up call, to say the least. And while you can’t go wrong with traditional kinds like blueberry and scallion, this birthday cake cream cheese version is hard to ignore. Made with boxed Funfetti cake mix, this ridiculously easy recipe demonstrates how we don’t have to be limited to the instructions on packaged goods. All it takes is a few ingredients, a dose of creativity, and a bit of a sweet tooth. Plus, once you start mixing up your own cream cheese flavors, there’s a good chance you’ll get addicted to the process. After all, cream cheese is one of those ingredients that can be customized with whatever the heck you want. This particular version takes the cake, though. Literally.
Birthday Cake Cream Cheese
Yields: 8 ounces of cream cheese Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 5 minutes Total Time: 20 minutes
8 ounces Arla Original cream cheese
½ cup Funfetti cake mix
¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles
How to Make It
Before you mix up this glorious concoction, make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature. This will make it easier to combine all of the ingredients together. To do this, let the cream cheese hang out on your countertop. About 10 minutes should do the trick.
Once the cream cheese reaches room temperature, mix with a spoon until it is smooth and creamy.
Add the cake mix, vanilla extract, and rainbow sprinkles. Blend until the ingredients are fully combined, making sure there aren’t any clumps of cake mix.
Spread your magical creation onto your favorite bagel. This flavor works especially well with plain and cinnamon raisin bagels. If you’ve got a real sweet tooth, try this cream cheese with a chocolate chip or chocolate bagel.
